Phosgene

Process Conditions
Phosgene is used as a feed chemical in the production of polyurethanes and is naturally highly toxic. With between 3 to 6 bar pressure and ambient temperature the end users overwhelming concern is safety of its operators and ensuring no leakage to atmosphere.

The Solution
The end user wanted the safest possibly option and therefore chose a Euro Chlor approved bellows seal globe control valve from Hunt & Mitton. The design of the primary and secondary seals, the choice of compatible materials and the radiography of castings all ensured the fluid would remain inside the valve. A high performance control valve trim also gives the control of the fluid as required by the end user’s process.

The Benefit
First and foremost, the benefit for the end user is the safe condition of ensuring the toxic fluid remains inside the valve. In addition, there has been a reduction in the amount of maintenance required around the valve on this application as the control valve design and material choices were matched with the process conditions. As a specialist manufacturer of valves for hazardous chemical applications, the end user was able to have a dedicated control valve supplied in a very competitive lead time with no delays.
